How Do I Check My CEU?

Continuing education is an essential requirement for many careers across various industries. Taking continuing education credits ensures that you’re staying up-to-date on all of the new trends and techniques, allows you to gain and fine-tune skills, and can even help further your career. So even though continuing education units (CEU) can seem like a hassle, they are to the benefit of yourself, the business you work for, your clients, and your future.

If you are a cosmetologist, CE is a great way to see what new fashions are out there, the latest hairstyles, and more. Texas cosmetology licenses need to be renewed every two years, and in order to renew your license, you need to complete four hours of CEUs. There are various things to know about continuing education, including how to complete them, what events or activities count, when they need to be completed, how to check how many you have completed, and if they are filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

CosmoTraining is an official TDLR provider and offers affordable and convenient online continuing education credits. Below we’ll go over some of the biggest questions people have about CEU, but if you need more information, please feel free to contact our team!

What Events of Activities Count For CEU?

Even though many people choose to complete their credits through online courses, there are several ways cosmetologists can earn continuing education credits. CEUs can be obtained by attending classroom instruction, going to a lecture, attending a seminar, going to a trade show, viewing a product demonstration, going to a conference, or signing up for a college or university course. You can choose one event or activity or any combination of events, as long as it adds up to four hours of CEUs.

How to Complete Your Continuing Education

When you attend a lecture, seminar, or trade show, the instructors or administrative staff from the organization will provide paperwork to fill out. They will confirm that you completed the necessary requirements to receive the credits. They will also submit the paperwork to the TDLR, who will ensure that the units are properly credited to you.

When Do They Need to be Completed?

Continuing education credits can be completed at any point. However, in the state of Texas, cosmetology licenses expire every two years, and CEUs must be completed in order to renew your license. It’s highly recommended that you complete your credits well before your license expires. This will ensure that you have enough time to find an official event or activity and allows enough time for TDLR to receive the paperwork.
