What Does a Manicurist Do?

Manicurists, simply put, clean, shape, and beautify fingernails.  Manicurists work exclusively on hands and provide treatments to groom fingernails. A typical treatment involves soaking a client’s hands in water and sometimes they use a conditioning agent to soften the skin and remove dead skin cells.  Then they trim, shape, and buff fingernails, care for the cuticles, and apply polish or attach artificial nails.  Next, manicurists apply lotion to the hands to moisturize the skin.  Some manicurists work in a full-service salon, operate exclusively from a nail salon, work from home, or they are mobile – traveling to their client’s location.
